PI-SENS represented at ORBITALY 2026 in Lecce
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Knoll and Dr. Roger Hasler represented the Danube Private University (DPU) and the COMET Project PI-SENS at ORBITALY 2026 (Organic Bioelectronics Italy), held in Lecce, Italy, from 16–19 September 2026. The conference brought together the Italian and international research community working in the field of bioelectronics, with a particular focus on organic materials and devices.
Held in the historic center of Lecce at the prestigious Convitto Palmieri, ORBITALY 2026 provided an inspiring setting for scientific exchange, interdisciplinary discussions, and networking. The program highlighted recent advances and emerging directions at the interface of electronics, photonics, materials science, and the life sciences. The participation of the DPU team provided an opportunity to present research conducted within PI-SENS, which aims to develop intelligent sensing technologies for personalized medicine. In particular, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Knoll contributed a keynote lecture entitled “Monitoring Odorants by a Biomimetic Smell Sensor”, presenting recent developments in biomimetic sensing approaches. Dr. Roger Hasler presented a poster entitled “Beyond Mass or Charge: A Toolbox of Integrated SPR-FET Platforms for Multifaceted Investigation of Biomolecular Interactions”. His work was recognized with the Best Poster Award at the conference.
The conference brought together 103 participants, including 9 keynote speakers, 15 invited speakers, 18 spotlight talks, and 22 poster presentations, providing numerous opportunities for scientific exchange across disciplines. Beyond the scientific program, ORBITALY 2026 offered an excellent platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening existing collaborations, and establishing new scientific connections. Wolfgang Knoll and Roger Hasler returned from Lecce with many new ideas, strengthened connections with colleagues and friends in the field, and promising opportunities for future collaborative research within and beyond PI-SENS.
