During a two-week visit at the University of Ulm, Dr. Gonzalo Fenoy collaborated with Rosenau’s group, a project partner in PI-SENS, to advance the work on the development of novel biosensing platforms for bacteria detection. Rosenau’s group specializes in innovative diagnostic tools and antimicrobial strategies using aptamers and peptides. Particularly, the group focuses on generating aptamers to detect key gut bacteria, WHO-priority pathogens, small molecules, and a wide range of biological targets, and develops graphene-based field-effect transistor (gFET) biosensors that employ aptamers for highly sensitive and precise detection of biomolecules and whole cells.

The visit allowed both groups to combine their complementary expertise and carry out hands-on experiments integrating aptamers as recognition elements into innovative biosensors. This collaboration helped define specific technical milestones and next steps, strengthening the overall progress of PI-SENS.
More information about Rosenau’s group is available on their official website: https://www.uni-ulm.de/en/nawi/institute-of-pharmaceutical-biotechnology/institute/rosenau-group/.
